As long as they are still running the program, we think it's a great way for people to visit us. Please check the Metra website for details and availability of the bike program. The closest station to the orchard is in Woodstock. Woodstock is the next to last station on the Union Pacific District Northwest Line. It is also known as the Chicago - Harvard line.
The orchard is 3.6 miles from the train station. However, this route covers 3 miles on Rt. 120, which is a fast moving (55 mph) 2 lane highway. If you are in a hurry or do not mind riding with fast traffic, use this route. Here are the directions via Google Maps for this shortest route.
If you would like a more leisurely pace, we have a few options. The first option takes you through the rolling hills of Bull Valley and has you go onto Rt. 120 for only the last 1/4 mile of the journey. This option is 5.2 miles long.
The second leisurely option starts the same as the other, but completely avoids Rt. 120. This option is 6.4 miles.
A little tip for both longer routes is to go behind the Chase and McDonald's as you approach Rt. 47 (Eastwood Rd.) to get to the light at South St./Country Club Rd. and Rt. 47. That way, you avoid merging onto Rt. 47 and trying to get over to make a left turn onto South St., You'll simply go through the light and cross 47, as you are now on South St.
